About the role

The Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Program and Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professor position in Jewish Studies. The role focuses on the literature, culture, thought, or religion of the Jewish people in early modern, modern, or contemporary contexts.

Key responsibilities

• Teach wide‑range introductory courses in Jewish Studies and specialized courses aligned with your research area.
• Develop and maintain an active research agenda, publish scholarly work, and contribute to the academic community.
• Participate in departmental service, mentoring, and initiatives that support the College of Arts and Humanities’ strategic pillars.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Jewish Studies or a closely related field, completed by August 1 2027.
• Demonstrated ability to teach both introductory and specialized courses.
• Commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive scholarly environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with standard classroom technology and computer work for extended periods.
• Physical ability to transport instructional materials up to 15 lb and navigate between office and classroom locations.

What we offer

• Competitive salary range of $90,000 – $95,000 per year.
