Security Officer – Night Shift

About the role

The Security Officer works the night shift (10:00 pm – 6:30 am) at Mercy Hospital, providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This position offers direct collaboration with police officers and opportunities for professional growth within a leading healthcare system.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol hospital grounds, including interior areas, parking lots and decks, to deter vandalism, theft and property abuse.
• Provide escorts and respond to safety hazards, ensuring protection of patients, visitors and caregivers.
• Enforce facility policies such as parking, visitation, drug, and tobacco regulations.
• Conduct emergency department metal‑detector searches and log all activities to dispatch.
• Participate in drills, simulations and emergency preparedness plans.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED and a valid Ohio driver’s license.
• At least one year of experience in criminal justice, private/public/military security, or related law‑enforcement field.
• Physical ability to walk, stand for long periods, chase and apprehend suspects, and pass annual vision and hearing tests.
• Eligibility for Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification (preferred).

Required skills

• Operation of metal‑detector equipment (magnetometer or hand‑held scanners).
• Completion of de‑escalation training within six months of hire.
• Taser certification and ongoing competency.
