Security Officer – Night Shift

About the role

The Security Officer will protect patients, visitors, caregivers and property at Mercy Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic Health System facility. Working the night shift (10 pm‑6 am), you will join a team that collaborates with police officers and supports a safe environment for all.

Key responsibilities

• Perform proactive monitoring and timely response to security threats.
• Patrol hospital interiors, parking lots and decks to deter vandalism, theft and property abuse.
• Provide escorts for patients, visitors and staff, and eliminate safety hazards.
• Enforce facility policies such as parking, visitation, drug, and tobacco regulations.
• Assist with alarms, emergency/disaster preparedness plans and conduct drills.
• Conduct metal‑detector searches in the Emergency Department and log activities to dispatch.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and eligible insurance.
• At least one year of experience in criminal justice, private/public/military security, or related law‑enforcement field, or Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy certification.
• Physical ability to walk, stand for long periods, chase and apprehend suspects, and pass annual vision and hearing tests.

Required skills

• Operation of metal‑detector equipment.
• De‑escalation techniques and taser certification (within first year).
• Good eye‑hand coordination and ability to follow standard precautions with personal protective equipment.
