Security Officer (Levels 1-3) – Full-Time

About the role

The Department of Public Safety and Security at the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine is hiring full‑time Security Officers at three experience levels. Officers patrol campus facilities, respond to emergencies, and provide a safe environment for patients, staff, visitors, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Patrol hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter and investigate theft, vandalism, arson and other criminal activity.
• Monitor and respond to security, fire and environmental alarms, and follow up as needed.
• Respond to emergency calls, assist during disasters, and intervene with disruptive individuals using verbal and, when necessary, physical techniques.
• Document incidents accurately, complete reports, and manage evidence, valuables, and lost‑and‑found items.
• Operate University‑owned vehicles in compliance with campus policies.
• Provide courteous customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent (required for all levels).
• Security Officer 1: minimum 1 year relevant experience.
• Security Officer 2: minimum 3 years relevant experience.
• Security Officer 3: minimum 10 years law‑enforcement or military police experience.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
