School Resource Officer – Metro RYDC (Atlanta, GA)

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a School Resource Officer for the Metro RYDC facility in Atlanta. Under supervision, you will provide law‑enforcement support, maintain security, and promote a safe learning environment for youth in a detention‑facility educational setting.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all law‑enforcement duties in accordance with established procedures.
• Provide security clearance for students entering and leaving secure areas, including bathroom and lunch breaks.
• Conduct regular walkthroughs of classrooms, hallways, and offices.
• Address disruptive behavior, dress code violations, tardiness, and absenteeism.
• Facilitate safety drills as required by the Georgia Preparatory Academy.
• Inspect areas for contraband or safety breaches after movements.
• Monitor security cameras and report equipment issues promptly.
• Collaborate with supervisors, educators, and support staff to increase student involvement.
• Assist in planning weekly student success meetings and monthly parent meetings.
• Lead group discussions on law‑enforcement topics when requested.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Successful completion of Georgia POST Basic Mandate Law Enforcement Training.
• Current GAPOST professional profile with PBLE number.
• Preference for an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Sociology, or related field.
• One or more years of experience as a School Resource Officer preferred.
• Three years of experience as a Peace Officer with valid Georgia POST certification.
• Two or more years of supervisory experience is a plus.
