About the role

The RN Preceptor on the 4 East Medical/Surgical unit at Indian River Hospital works night shifts, providing direct patient care while mentoring newly hired nurses. This part‑time position blends clinical responsibilities with orientation duties.

Key responsibilities

Model nursing actions, demonstrate procedures and give timely feedback to orientee nurses.
Assess learning needs, set goals, and track progress using evaluation tools.
Assist charge nurse with patient assignments and care planning.
Serve as a resource for orientees, introduce unit layout, personnel and policies.
Participate in hospital committees, unit‑practice councils and educational programs.

Required profile

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma, ADN or BSN).
Current state RN licensure.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
At least one year of acute‑care RN experience or equivalent military RN experience.
BSN required within three years of hire (if not already held).
