Revenue Tax Auditor – Field Audits (Baton Rouge)

About the role
The Louisiana Department of Revenue seeks a Revenue Tax Auditor to conduct complex in‑state and out‑of‑state field audits. You will ensure compliance with Louisiana tax laws while delivering high‑quality customer service.
Key responsibilities
- Perform field audits of large, complex businesses and corporations across Louisiana and other U.S. locations.
- Coordinate audits for a wide range of tax types, including corporate income, franchise, personal income, sales/use, severance, fuel taxes, tobacco, motor fuel, natural gas, and others.
- Independently examine financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes to determine correct tax liability.
- Travel to out‑of‑state metropolitan areas to conduct examinations of the most complex taxpayers.
- Prepare detailed audit reports and recommend collection actions as needed.
Required profile
- Three years of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing, OR six years of full‑time experience in any field plus 24 semester hours in accounting.
- Bachelor’s degree with 24 semester hours in accounting, or a degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics.
- Advanced degree in a related field, CPA license, or current Louisiana law license is acceptable.
- Ability to substitute up to 120 semester hours for up to four years of experience.
