Retail Property Accountant

About the role

Morguard, a fully integrated real estate company investing in multifamily assets across North America, is hiring a Retail Property Accountant in Pompano Beach. The role is accountable to the Retail Financial Accounting Supervisor and covers the timely and accurate completion of accounting activities for a portfolio of mixed-use real estate investments, ensuring financial reporting complies with company accounting policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities

• General accounting: maintain and oversee day-to-day general ledger transactions, draft and input journal entries, liaise with other departments, accountants, managers and controllers, and maintain fixed asset ledgers including entries into FAS software for depreciation calculations
• Prepare annual billings and CAM reconciliations as needed by tenant lease agreements
• Prepare and review monthly and quarterly financial statements, reporting packages, exception reports, and the annual budget and forecast
• Prepare and, when assigned, review monthly and quarterly accounting, compliance and vendor/tenant reconciliations, and help resolve discrepancies
• Participate in filing regulatory documents
• Support the quarterly and annual audit process by preparing working papers and financial statements and resolving external audit queries
• Support Property Managers and Accounting Managers with the annual forecast and budgeting process
• Complete ad hoc projects such as researching and implementing emerging technical accounting requirements

Required profile

• College diploma in Accounting or Business Administration or equivalent
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant accounting experience
• Enrollment in an accounting designation course
• Good communication, analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently under pressure
• General understanding of US GAAP and IFRS and a career plan to obtain an accounting designation are assets

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of MS Office applications
• Knowledge of Yardi software
