Respiratory Therapist – Patient Care Specialist

About the role

Ochsner Health seeks a Respiratory Therapist to deliver comprehensive respiratory care to patients of all ages, from neonatal to geriatric, in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will provide oxygen therapy, ventilation support, and diagnostic testing while ensuring high-quality patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Administer respiratory treatments, oxygen services, and ventilation support.
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases, EKGs, and other diagnostic procedures.
• Assist with artificial airway changes and provide intermittent therapy as ordered.
• Document clinical information, educate patients and staff, and attend staff meetings.

Required profile

• Associate's degree in Respiratory Therapy.
• Current state license and certification as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced clinical environment and comply with federal, state, and hospital regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑based computer applications and data entry.
• Knowledge of arterial blood gas analysis, EKG interpretation, and ventilation equipment.
• Competence in oxygen therapy, artificial ventilation, and respiratory diagnostic testing.
