Respiratory Therapist – NICU Night Shift

About the role

Ochsner Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist to provide comprehensive respiratory care in the Baptist NICU during the night shift. You will deliver oxygen therapy, ventilation support, and diagnostic testing to patients ranging from neonates to geriatrics, ensuring high‑quality care in a fast‑paced environment.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and monitor oxygen therapy, artificial ventilation, and intermittent respiratory treatments.
• Draw, analyze, and report arterial blood gases and electrocardiograms.
• Assist with airway management, including changing artificial airways.
• Document all clinical information and educate patients and staff on procedures.
• Maintain compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist and NBRCT certification.
• Basic Life Support certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
• No prior work experience required.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows‑based applications and data‑entry systems.
• Ability to operate and wean ventilators and other respiratory equipment.
• Competence in arterial blood gas analysis and interpretation.
• Strong verbal and written communication for patient education and documentation.
