Respiratory Therapist I (Night Shift)

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in La Grange, Illinois is hiring a full-time Respiratory Therapist I for night shifts (7 pm to 7:30 am, rotating weekends). The starting rate is $35 an hour, with a pay range of $28.49 to $52.99. A sign-on bonus of up to $20,000 is available.

Key responsibilities

• Perform respiratory and oxygen delivery therapies and recommend the most efficient delivery method per protocol
• Analyze arterial blood gas and co-oximetry results, perform quality controls, and report findings
• Maintain the airway using manual resuscitators, oral and nasal pharyngeal airways and suctioning
• Initiate, maintain, transport and monitor mechanical ventilators in basic conventional modes
• Respond immediately to Code Blue emergencies with CPR and other duties as directed
• Document procedures accurately, collaborate on patient flow, and interpret test results with the interdisciplinary team to adjust therapy
• Use patient assessment, protocols and chart review to make cost- and time-efficient recommendations

Required profile

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science (required)
• Basic Life Support (CPR) certification (required)
• State Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license (required); NBRC RRT credential preferred
• 1+ year of critical care experience preferred
• Patient care skills for neonatal, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients

Required skills

• NBRC credential (required for new hires and incumbents in all states, except Florida legacy incumbents)
• Arterial blood gas analysis and co-oximetry interpretation
• Mechanical ventilation monitoring and airway management
