Registered Nurse - Emergency Department (PRN Night)

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in La Grange, Illinois is hiring a Registered Nurse for its Emergency Department on a PRN basis, working night shifts. The nurse conducts assessments, develops care plans, coordinates care across disciplines and supervises nursing and support staff.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments of patients' physical, mental and emotional health.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans and monitor patient progress, adjusting them as needed.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care with physicians, nurses, social workers and therapists.
• Document assessments, care plans, interventions and outcomes accurately in the medical record.
• Administer medications and treatments safely, following protocols.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment options and care plans.
• Supervise nursing and support staff, evaluate their performance and ensure adherence to care standards.
• Evaluate discharge planning needs and coordinate discharge to home or another facility.
• Ensure compliance with policies and protocols and resolve issues related to patient care, staffing and resources.

Required profile

• Associate's degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred).
• Registered Nurse (RN) license and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• 1+ year of acute hospital experience (preferred); 1+ year of lead EKG experience (required).
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Ability to work alone, under pressure and in a distracting environment, and to manage stress and conflict.
• Commitment to purposeful hourly visits and consumer experience strategies; internship or preceptorship depending on experience.

Required skills

• High-level abstract reasoning to assess patients and revise care plans.
• Demonstrated acute-care nursing knowledge and skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and make independent decisions.
• Basic computer skills, including navigating Microsoft Windows-based programs.
• Unit-specific competencies met per the orientation pathway.

Preferred certifications include CCP, CEN, NRP, AVADE, NRP-A, TNCC, CHEMO and Trauma Nurse Course Certified. Pay range: $33.94 - $57.08.
