Endoscopy and Operating Room Technician

About the role

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth in La Grange, Illinois, is hiring a full-time Endoscopy and Operating Room Technician for the day shift, working either 5/8 or 4/10 schedules with call. The role supports the surgical team by preparing the operating environment, passing instruments and maintaining strict sterile technique.

Key responsibilities

• Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures, including scrubs, gowns and gloves.
• Set up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications, knowing the procedure and patient positioning.
• Perform counts with the circulator before the operation and before closing the incision.
• Help the surgeon and assistants with gowns and gloves, and help with draping the sterile field.
• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures and maintain the highest standard of sterile technique.
• Prepare sterile dressings and clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Handle surgical specimens accurately, assist with terminal cleaning of the room and respond immediately to emergencies.

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent, with completion of a technical/vocational school program.
• Associate degree preferred.
• 2+ years as a certified surgical technologist preferred.
• State Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), or Technician in Surgery - Certified (NTSC).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification required.

Required skills

• Knowledge of sterile technique, instrumentation, equipment and sterile field setup.
• Knowledge of sterilization techniques.
• Ability to anticipate critical emergencies and to organize and run in-services on the unit.
• Proficiency in at least two surgical specialties preferred.
