About the role

Cartesia is building next‑generation AI model architectures that learn and interact with the world like humans. As a Researcher, Models you will join a team of PhDs and engineers pioneering state‑space models and efficient transformers.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct groundbreaking research in neural network architecture design to advance state‑of‑the‑art alternatives such as state‑space models and efficient transformers.
• Design novel architectures that improve model quality, inference efficiency, and adaptability across cloud and on‑device environments.
• Explore and develop capabilities like statefulness, long‑range memory, and innovative conditioning mechanisms.
• Investigate how architectural decisions impact scalability, robustness, latency, and energy efficiency.
• Develop new frameworks and tools to benchmark architectural innovations in research and production settings.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate research into scalable, real‑world systems.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in architecture design with experience in state‑space models, transformers, RNN and CNN variants.
• Strong understanding of how architectures interact with system constraints, including cloud and on‑device deployment.
• Proficiency in designing architectures that balance quality, efficiency, and adaptability across vision, audio, and text modalities.
• Familiarity with generative modeling paradigms such as autoregressive and diffusion models, and designing stateful and conditioned deep learning models.
• Proven research track record in top‑tier ML/AI venues or demonstrable state‑of‑the‑art contributions.
• Exceptional analytical and problem‑solving skills with a focus on experimentation and iterative refinement.
• Strong programming skills in deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or TensorFlow) and experience with profiling tools.

Required skills

• Prior research or publications on state‑space models, efficient transformers, or alternative architectures.
• Experience designing architectures for multi‑modal systems.
• Background in early‑stage startup environments with rapid R&D innovation.
