Research Technician I – Wildlife Research

About the role
The Research Technician I provides entry‑level technical support for the Spatial and Population Ecology of Carnivores (SPEC) Lab at the Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute. The role focuses on field operations, data handling, and image processing to support the South Texas Ocelot Research Program.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain a trail‑camera grid of ~500 units, including SD‑card collection, battery replacement, and repositioning during weather events.
- Assist with telemetry tracking of collared felids and other carnivores.
- Process camera images, identify species, and update databases.
- Support additional carnivore fieldwork, including box‑trapping grids for bobcats.
Required profile
- Entry‑level candidate comfortable working outdoors in South Texas.
- Ability to follow protocols under general supervision.
- Attention to detail for equipment handling and data entry.
Required skills
