Research Specialist I/II – Coastal Water Quality

About the role
The Research Specialist supports coastal water quality studies at Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi. The role involves field sampling, laboratory processing, data management, and training of team members to ensure high‑quality research outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Plan and execute field sampling campaigns, operating university vehicles and boats safely.
- Process collected samples in the laboratory and perform quality control.
- Enter laboratory data into master databases, conduct QC checks, and upload datasets to appropriate repositories.
- Train team personnel on field safety, boat usage, and sampling protocols.
- Document training activities and maintain safety records.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Master’s degree may substitute for experience).
- 4–6 years of relevant experience, depending on level (I or II).
- Valid driver’s license and experience operating small boats in estuarine waters.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions and conduct field work safely.
Required skills
- Operating small boats in estuarine environments.
- Operating water quality sondes.
- Using data management software for data entry, quality control, and repository uploads.
