Research Laboratory Technician

About the role

NEXT Oncology, an Avacare business, is hiring an on-site Research Laboratory Technician in Fairfax, VA. The technician performs routine analysis and laboratory testing procedures for clinical trials, working closely with clinical staff and vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Label, receive and process samples (blood, urine, tissue, stool, etc.) for clinical trials according to protocol guidelines, logging them into and out of the department
• Request and receive tissue samples from outside pathology facilities and send tissue blocks to a vendor to have slides cut and shipped to the study's lab
• Record all data in the specified paper and electronic forms accurately, enter it into the departmental database and flag discrepancies with clinical staff
• Organize and store reagents according to safety instructions, maintain equipment and a clean lab, and restock consumables each day
• Manage inventory of clinical trial supplies and kits, and handle administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, copying and emailing
• Ship or store samples before the end of the shift and prepare collection tubes and aliquots for the next day's clinic

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in the sciences required
• 1 year of prior lab and sample processing and shipping experience preferred but not required
• IATA Dangerous Goods handling training provided after hire if not already certified

Required skills

• Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases

What we offer

• Base pay range of $42,700 to $89,000 depending on qualifications, location and schedule
