Clinical Nurse - Oncology Clinical Trials

About the role

NEXT Oncology, an Avacare business, is looking for a Clinical Nurse in Fairfax. The nurse must know standard research and oncology care practices, advocate for patient safety and protocol integrity, adhere to patient care standards and communicate effectively so that clinical trials run well and patients receive quality care.

Key responsibilities

• Protocol compliance: follow federal, state and institutional regulations and policies, comply with NEXT Oncology SOPs, and work with the PI, pharmacy and others on study drugs.
• Informed consent: identify barriers to consent (literacy, capacity, language, distress, time, therapeutic misconception), check patient understanding, obtain consent before study tasks and arrange timely re-consent.
• Patient care: complete patient assessments, gather and document data, coordinate care, triage urgent calls, educate patients and families, and support symptom management within the protocol.
• Adherence and response: evaluate adherence to self-administered protocol agents, check return of agents, and work with the investigator on dose or schedule changes and disease response.
• Documentation: record all encounters in the legal medical record, obtain documents from outside providers, correct discrepancies and protect patient confidentiality.

Required profile

• Current BLS and ACLS certification, or obtained within 90 days of employment.
• Registered nursing license for the state where the role is based.
• Oncology experience preferred; clinical trial experience preferred.

• Base pay range of $57,700 to $209,800 depending on qualifications, location and schedule.
