About the role

Anthropic is seeking a Research Engineer to advance the Universes team’s next‑generation training environments for safe, agentic AI. The role blends research and engineering, focusing on reinforcement learning, environment design, and rigorous evaluation.

Key responsibilities

• Build next‑generation agentic environments for ultra‑realistic, long‑horizon tasks.
• Develop rigorous evaluations that measure genuine capability.
• Collaborate with research and infrastructure teams to ship environments into production training.
• Debug and iterate rapidly across research and production ML stacks.
• Contribute to research culture through technical discussions and collaborative problem‑solving.

Required skills

• Experience with large language model training, fine‑tuning, or evaluation.
• Experience building reinforcement‑learning environments, simulation systems, or large‑scale ML infrastructure.
• Expertise in sandboxing, containerization, VM infrastructure, or distributed systems.
