Research Associate 1 – Biology

About the role

The University of Miami’s Wilson Lab is seeking a full‑time Research Associate 1 to support an NSF‑funded project investigating the role of mTORC1 in the aphid‑Buchnera endosymbiosis. This laboratory‑based position combines hands‑on experimental work with collaborative research in a dynamic academic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform microinjection and microdissection of aphids for experimental assays.
• Maintain and expand aphid colonies and host plant cultures on a regular schedule, including occasional weekends.
• Conduct confocal microscopy and digital droplet PCR experiments.
• Document protocols, record data, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts.
• Assist undergraduate researchers and share laboratory responsibilities.

Required profile

• Strong curiosity about host‑microbe interactions and symbiosis.
• Willingness to learn and develop new laboratory techniques.
• Reliability and attention to detail for routine colony maintenance.
• Interest in pursuing graduate studies or a technical research career.
