Remote Field Service Technician

About the role

ABB's Service Division, part of its Electrification Service Division in Indianapolis, Indiana, is hiring a remote Field Service Technician. The role reports to the Service Manager and covers installation, troubleshooting, repair and preventative maintenance of electrical distribution equipment. It is a remote position.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule jobs and order materials with internal and external customers by phone or email, and carry out safety analysis and paperwork before starting work.
• Work in line with ABB HSE, ABB Way and Safety Manual policies.
• Carry out hands-on work on Power Delivery equipment, including transformers, switchgear, OCBs, circuit breakers, busways, UPS, ATS, PLCs, relays and power management control systems.
• Take part in outages with other field engineers, technicians and contractors, including project management and site coordination.
• Write technical reports, prepare job status reports, time sheets and expense sheets, and handle quotations and material orders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (Electrical or Mechanical preferred), or a high school diploma / GED with four additional years of related engineering, field or technical experience.
• 2 years of field engineering experience or equivalent, such as military service, preferred.
• Ability to lift and move circuit breakers and other equipment weighing several hundred pounds.
• Willingness to travel about 75% of the time, and to hold a valid passport and driver's licence.
• Existing work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

Required skills

• Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
• Preferred: testing of low and medium voltage breakers, switchgear, relays and transformers.
• Preferred: repair and refurbishment of LV and MV circuit breakers (Siemens, GE, ABB, Square D, Multilin relays, Switzer relays).
• A plus: testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of medium voltage synchronous machines, controls systems and PLCs.
