About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides pulmonary care to critical, non‑critical, and chronically ill patients of all ages under physician direction. The role involves patient assessment, development of respiratory care plans, and execution of a wide range of therapeutic procedures in a hospital setting.

Key responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency codes (Code Blue and White) and provide immediate airway management.
  • Perform nasotracheal and endotracheal suctioning, oral hygiene, and placement/maintenance of airway retaining devices.
  • Deliver aerosolized medications and manage ventilators, including set‑up and operation.
  • Operate and monitor BiPAP, CPAP, and other airway support devices.
  • Administer oxygen therapy and conduct therapeutic monitoring.
  • Analyze chest films, collect and interpret blood gases, and read EKGs.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately and maintain equipment cleanliness and inventory.
  • Participate in CAP and Joint Commission surveys.
  • May serve as Shift Leader or Team Leader as needed.
  • Advanced duties may include therapeutic gas management (INO, HeO2), pulmonary function testing, bronchoscopy assistance, hemodynamic monitoring, waveform analysis, nocturnal SpO2 studies, polysomnography, and patient transport.

Required profile

  • Current state license as a Respiratory Therapist (RT) or Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential from NBRC.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • 1–3 years of clinical respiratory therapy experience preferred.
  • Availability for PRN/Per Diem shifts.
