Registered Respiratory Therapist – Children’s Hospital

About the role

The Registered Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy procedures for pediatric patients at the Children’s Hospital, supporting diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of respiratory and pulmonary disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Administer physician‑prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, medications, pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gases (ABGs), and mechanical ventilation.
• Monitor patients on mechanical ventilation, perform clinical assessments, troubleshoot equipment, and assist with weaning and airway care.
• Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens; measure lung capacity and provide diagnostic results and treatment suggestions.

Required profile

• Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Less than 1 year of related experience.
• RRT certification (National Board for Respiratory Care) within 1 year of hire.
• ACLS certification within 60 days of hire and Pennsylvania RCP license upon hire.

Required skills

• Respiratory therapy procedures and techniques.
• Mechanical ventilation operation and troubleshooting.
• Pulmonary function testing (PFT) and arterial blood gas analysis.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
• RRT and RCP certifications.
