Registered Nurse – Public Health (Nurse I/II)

About the role

The South Dakota Department of Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Office of Public Health Nursing Services. The position can be classified as Nurse I or Nurse II, depending on education and experience, and involves delivering public health nursing services across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Apply nursing theory, evidence‑based practice, and clinical judgment to assess individuals, families, and communities.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate care plans that address public health priorities.
• Conduct age‑appropriate and pregnancy‑related health assessments following OPHNS protocols.
• Document all nursing activities in compliance with legal and organizational standards.
• Travel as needed to meet organizational and public health service demands.

Required profile

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Dakota.
• Education and experience appropriate for Nurse I or Nurse II level.
• Ability to work independently, exercise critical thinking, and adapt to changing public health needs.
