Registered Nurse – Certified First Assist

About the role

Lehigh Valley Health Network is seeking a Registered Nurse to serve as a Certified First Assist. The RN will support providers during office hours and scrub on surgical procedures under supervision, contributing to high‑quality patient care in a Magnet® hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the provider with clinical duties such as rooming patients, applying and removing casts/splints.
• Scrub and assist on surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons and physician assistants.
• Support the Professional Practice Model and participate in performance‑improvement activities.
• Identify and intervene to correct potential risks based on physiological or behavioral observations.
• Problem‑solve equipment issues and take corrective measures.
• Serve as a preceptor for new employees, transfers, and affiliating students.
• Share knowledge gained from daily practice, continuing education, and in‑services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum of 2 years orthopedic case experience in the operating room and 4 years total OR experience.
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification (Pennsylvania).
• CRNFA – Certified RN First Assistant (Pennsylvania).
• CCICBPN certification (Pennsylvania).
• Current RN license in Pennsylvania.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified RN First Assistant (CRNFA).
• CCICBPN certification.
• Proficiency in orthopedic surgical procedures.
