R&D Manager - Instrumentation Products

About the role

ABB is looking for an R&D Manager for its Instrumentation business line, reporting to the Technology Manager Instrumentation. The manager leads a globally distributed team of experts developing and maintaining a portfolio of flow computers and remote controllers, driving new product development projects and fostering a culture of innovation. The role is onsite in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Key responsibilities

• Build the R&D team's competencies, attract and retain talent, and support the long-term strategy of the Instrumentation business line.
• Ensure R&D projects are delivered on time and on budget, assign resources, monitor progress and take corrective action, keeping the Product Development Process to quality standards.
• Work with Product Management to define the product and technology development roadmap and plan an optimal project portfolio.
• Cooperate with other R&D teams in the global division, sharing results and best practices.
• Support manufacturing and service in solving quality issues and promote collaboration with all functions for smooth New Product Introduction.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in engineering; a Master's or Doctorate in engineering is preferred, preferably in computer science or electrical engineering.
• 12+ years of industry experience, including R&D or project management of large R&D projects.
• 5+ years of senior-level people management and technology management experience.
• Strong collaborative and communication skills with peers and stakeholders locally and globally.

Required skills

• In-depth experience managing teams on large software projects and awareness of modern software technologies and development methodologies.
• Advantageous: knowledge of hardware design, industrial measurement technologies and systems, and flow-computer applications.
