Radiation Therapist (RTT) - $5k Sign On

About the role

The Radiation Therapist (RTT) works in the Radiation Oncology department and reports to the Radiation Therapy Lead. The position is full-time, Monday to Friday 8am-5pm, and covers the technical part of radiation therapy treatments, including delivery according to written prescriptions and treatment plans while keeping patient care safe.

Key responsibilities

• Identify the correct patient, escort them to the treatment room, assist them onto the table, position them, deliver radiation from the control room and help them exit.
• Document treatment records completely and accurately, report deviations from the prescribed plan, and explain treatment procedures to patients and their families.
• Observe patients for reactions to treatment, reinforce education on side effects, and flag non-compliance to medical and nursing staff.
• Perform patient simulations at the physician's request, collect and document the data, and enter treatment data into the EMR.
• Assist with transport, chart review and supply ordering, and adjust imaging/ARGT settings for high-quality treatment.
• Run and document daily and weekly QA checklists, participate in quality-improvement programs, and capture and verify patient treatment charges.
• In emergencies, give first aid, CPR and other patient care until a physician or nurse arrives.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited School of Radiation Therapy Technology (BS preferred).
• At least one year of active experience as a Radiation Therapist; recent graduates eligible to sit for the registry will be considered and must pass the RTT Registry exam within 6 months of hire.
• Certified as a Registered Radiation Therapy Technologist (ARRT); dual certification as a General Radiographer or CT Technologist preferred.
• Current CPR/BLS certification.
• Fluent English; Spanish is desirable.

Required skills

• Manual quality assurance and quality control checks of treatment delivery.
• Accurate documentation of treatment setups, doses and calculations.
• Good judgment on holding treatment pending consultation with the radiation oncologist.
