Medical Assistant - Oncology and Hematology

About the role

Aoncology is hiring a Medical Assistant for its Fort Wayne Medical Oncology and Hematology practice. The role supports physicians with medical procedures in the office and covers phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Pay range is $17.25-$25.84.

Key responsibilities

• Perform quality control before patient testing, draw blood, run blood work and handle specimens according to lab procedures
• Prepare blood or bone marrow slides, send specimens to outside labs and maintain test and quality control logs and equipment records
• Follow AON patient ID policy, obtain vitals, height, weight, pain level and PHQ9 screening, and place patients in the exam room
• Receive lab reports and document them in the patient chart or EMR, and assist with bone marrow, fine needle aspirate, paracentesis and pelvic exams
• Schedule outside testing, referrals and hospital admissions, and document testing and treatment thoroughly
• Maintain supply inventory, order supplies, troubleshoot instrument malfunctions and perform EKG testing where applicable
• Keep the laboratory compliant with state and federal regulations, protect patient confidentiality, and train new employees
• Willingness to work at any AON location and to work overtime when given sufficient notice

Required profile

• High school or GED; certifications and licenses as required by the state of employment
• BLS certification required; valid driver's license and vehicle for travel between clinic locations
• At least one year of experience as a medical assistant in a clinic or physician's office, including venipuncture
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-site environment and to work remotely when required

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
• EMR software
• Good command of English; second language is an asset
