Quality Manager - Chemical Manufacturing

About the role

BASF is hiring a Quality Manager in Chattanooga, TN (onsite). The role leads the Chattanooga Quality organization and the Quality Control/Quality Assurance laboratories across the Amnicola and Polymer Drive operations. It covers Quality Management Systems, laboratory operations, team development, nonconformance and corrective action, quality risk, performance improvement and cross-functional collaboration, protecting customers and ensuring products meet regulatory, business and BASF requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Chattanooga Quality organization and two QA/QC labs, ensuring safe, reliable and timely testing, and develop the lab organization through staffing, training, coaching, performance management and succession planning
• Manage laboratory capability, analytical methods, equipment, calibration, data integrity, workflows and the fixed-cost budget and capital expenditure roadmap
• Set and drive Quality and laboratory objectives, KPIs, risks and improvement priorities, using statistical methods, Lean Six Sigma, SAPQM and digital tools
• Oversee raw materials, in-process controls, finished-product testing, product release, specifications, certificates of analysis and nonconforming-product controls
• Govern customer complaints and internal nonconformances, including containment, investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective action and closure
• Lead the Quality Management System, including ISO9001, Responsible Care requirements and BASF standards, and coordinate audits, management reviews and corrective actions
• Serve as the site's primary Quality representative and member of the Site Leadership Team, acting as the interface with the Regional Head of Quality

Required profile

• BS degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a related technical field
• 3-5 years of manufacturing experience, with chemical manufacturing experience preferred
• Experience in at least two different roles in a manufacturing or lab environment
• Demonstrated leadership capability; 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred
• Knowledge of chemistry principles, applications and safety, with dispersion, polymer or related chemical-process knowledge
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification required or attainable within one year of start date

Required skills

• ISO9001 quality management systems, quality-system auditing, Responsible Care requirements and risk-based prioritization
• Statistical process control and problem-solving techniques
• Root cause analysis, nonconformance investigations and corrective action implementation (preferred)
• SAP with SAPQM experience preferred
• Excellent facilitation, communication and influencing skills, with proven ability to lead project teams
