Quality Assurance Lab Technician - 12-Hour Nights

About the role

Saputo, a top 10 global dairy processor, is hiring a Quality Assurance Lab Technician for its 24/7 manufacturing facility. The technician works 12-hour rotating shifts (alternating 3-day and 4-day weeks) and supports the continuous operation of the plant. The position requires passing and maintaining specific state regulatory licensing or certification (CDFA, DFA Appendix N, Good Laboratory Practices).

Key responsibilities

• Collect samples and perform physical analytical sampling and testing of raw ingredients, packaging materials and finished dairy products, and microbiological/bacteriological testing, applying and interpreting results.
• Identify and communicate out-of-specification results and follow the notification protocol.
• Routinely collect product samples from production lines and maintain QC records and analytical documents, entering data into the system.
• Prepare stock solutions, calibrate and maintain lab equipment, and perform environmental control swabbing after clean-up and CIP/SIP.
• Support internal and external audits, mock and product recall programs, and prepare production records and customer certificates of analysis.
• Investigate consumer complaints and comply with all quality assurance procedures and dairy food regulations.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree in Food or Dairy Science is preferred.
• Experience with food quality specifications, process control monitoring and positive release documentation, or similar strict protocol adherence, is preferred.
• Advanced quality/food safety training or certifications are a plus but not required.
• Ability to pass and maintain regulatory certification and a demonstrated work history.
• Shift flexibility, as work days and shifts may change to cover vacations, plant downtime or quality events.

Required skills

• Understanding of food manufacturing acronyms (SQF, QA/QC, CQP, QAP, HACCP, SOP, 5S, GMP).
• Strong math, computer and business skills (SAP, Microsoft Office products).
• Good visual acuity with color vision; ability to lift up to 40 lbs intermittently and 50 lbs with assistance.
