Pulmonary Function Technician

About the role

The Pulmonary Function Technician works in the Pulmonary Function Lab at Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, providing diagnostic evaluation of lung function for patients with respiratory insufficiencies. The role supports pulmonologists and respiratory therapists in delivering high‑quality testing and patient education.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pulmonary function tests following ATS/ERS standards and document results accurately.
• Calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot pulmonary function testing equipment.
• Conduct quality‑control procedures and analyze data for validity.
• Perform blood‑gas puncture and analysis after completing competency training.
• Provide basic respiratory education to patients and assist with six‑minute walk tests.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) credential.
• Ohio Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with pulmonary function testing equipment and calibration.
• Knowledge of ATS/ERS testing standards and quality‑control protocols.
• Blood gas analysis and puncture techniques.
• Ability to interpret test results and recognize invalid data.
