Psychiatric RN - Home Health

About the role

Amedisys, part of the Optum family of businesses, provides home health, hospice and community-based services. As a Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) you will deliver compassionate, skilled psychiatric nursing care to patients in their homes, supporting mental health stability and overall well-being. The role covers assessment, medication management, patient and family education and coordination with interdisciplinary care teams, in line with clinical standards and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform initial nursing evaluations of behavioral health and psychiatric needs
• Observe and evaluate the patient's physical and mental status for complications and medication side effects
• Watch for behavioral changes indicating a need to change treatment, such as crisis or suicidal ideation, and other medical signs
• Instruct patients and caregivers on care techniques, medication regimens, safety interventions, ADL care, coping skills and symptom management
• Administer intramuscular medications, draw labs and collect specimens
• Act as case manager, coordinating care for assigned patients
• Complete documentation timely and accurately
• Supervise LPNs and HHAs
• Share patient progress regularly with the clinical manager, psychiatrist and care team

Required profile

• Current RN license for the state of assignment
• CMS-compliant psychiatric nursing experience: either a master's degree in mental health or psychiatric nursing, or a bachelor's degree with one year of recent acute or psychiatric experience, or a diploma/associate degree with two years of recent acute or psychiatric experience (within the last three to five years)
• Current CPR certification
• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation and liability insurance

Required skills

• Medication administration and lab draws

• Accurate clinical documentation

What we offer

• Pay of $71,677 to $107,516 annually, with per-visit point pay and an hourly rate for non-visit activities
