About the role
The State of Georgia is seeking a board‑certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to deliver comprehensive psychiatric care within the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities. This full‑time, day‑shift position offers the chance to impact the mental health of Georgia’s diverse population while working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and mental status examinations for patients across the lifespan.
- Develop evidence‑based treatment plans, including pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and other therapeutic interventions.
- Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitoring efficacy, side effects, and adherence.
- Provide individual and group therapy using various therapeutic modalities.
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated, patient‑centered care.
- Educate patients and families about mental health conditions and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records, documenting assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and medication management.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
- Offer crisis intervention and emergency psychiatric services as needed.
Required profile
- Current, unrestricted APRN licensure in Georgia with a specialty in Psychiatric Mental Health.
- Board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP‑BC).
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a psychiatric mental health focus.
- Minimum of 4 years of clinical experience as a PMHNP, preferably in public or behavioral health settings.

- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
