Professional Services Engineer
3e · Durham
Job description
About the role
3E is looking for a Professional Services Engineer to drive the end-to-end technical delivery of large-scale asset onboarding onto its Asset Performance Management (APM) SaaS platform. It is a hands-on, build-oriented role combining software engineering, data integration and renewable energy operations, with a hybrid workplace. Over time the engineer grows into the technical lead who turns a signed contract into a live, fully integrated client deployment.
Key responsibilities
- Contribute to end-to-end technical delivery of asset onboarding projects, covering data discovery, source-system assessment, integration, validation and go-live for portfolios across many sites.
- Build custom solutions such as data collectors, transformation pipelines, mapping tools and automation that bridge client source systems and the platform.
- Write Python and API scripts to extract, transform and load operational data, including bulk provisioning, tag-mapping, backfill and reconciliation scripts.
- Integrate with field data sources such as SCADA historians, OT/IoT platforms, SFTP feeds and third-party APIs, diagnosing pipeline failures and data-quality issues.
- Map and model assets at scale, turning raw point lists into the platform's data model for inverters, trackers, meters, weather stations, transformers and storage systems.
- Support the technical relationship with clients and vendors, helping scope work and coordinate with client engineering teams and integration partners.
- Document repeatable processes such as onboarding checklists, integration runbooks and how-to guides.
- Partner with DataOps, product and support teams to surface platform gaps and feed field learnings back into the product.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field (computer science, engineering, data or similar) or equivalent practical experience.
- Solid programming ability in Python, debugging and maintaining scripts that move and transform data.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, foundational SQL skills, and a builder's instinct for automated, repeatable solutions.
- Strong communication skills and ownership and problem-solving drive.
- Nice to have: exposure to solar, renewable energy or power/utilities, SCADA/historian systems, utility-scale solar or BESS operations, time-series data, APM/EAM platforms, and version control and ETL.
What we offer
- A base salary in line with experience.
- Unlimited PTO.
- Health plan (United Healthcare) for employee and family, with optional dental and vision insurance (50% employer coverage).
- Life insurance.
- 401(k) with employer matching up to 4% of salary, then 50% more between 4% and 6%.
- $60 monthly phone allowance.
