Senior Staff Software Engineer, S3

About the role

DDN is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to work on the ongoing development of a high-performance file system that is S3 compliant. The role calls for proven development experience, technical leadership, strong communication skills and the ability to work with teams and individuals worldwide to learn DDN products, technology and setup quickly.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, extend and improve the S3 implementation.
• Design and develop in C/C++ under tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Define and articulate technical designs with the required detail, and carry out full application development from design through testing to deployment.
• Take part in technical reviews during development.
• Architect and troubleshoot system-level components, especially the file system and related storage components.
• Carry out research-based technical tasks: define the approach, document results and draw conclusions, then design a solution from them.
• Mentor junior developers.
• Support product deployment and production defect resolution in a timely manner.

Required profile

• 12+ years of experience in system software development and complex problem resolution.
• Accountable, highly motivated with solid people skills.
• Good verbal and written English.
• Nice to have: experience with Scrum Agile and complex network programming (TCP/IP or RDMA).

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of C/C++.
• Linux development and deployment, including file system development.
• Understanding of OS principles and kernel procedures.
• Open-source toolchain such as gcc, gdb, g++, git.
• Parallel programming and knowledge of Linux file systems.
• User-space I/O frameworks such as FUSE and SPDK.
• Nice to have: RDMA, libfabric, zero-copy, performance engineering.
