PRN Staff Pharmacist

About the role

Ashe Memorial Hospital in Jefferson, North Carolina is hiring a PRN Staff Pharmacist for its pharmacy on the day shift. The pharmacist fills medication orders, monitors patient medication therapies and provides drug information, supervises support personnel and may act as pharmacy manager in the manager's absence. Pay is commensurate with experience, there are no travel requirements and hours are on the first shift.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret verbal and written medication orders and maintain accurate patient medication profiles
• Prepare and dispense medications safely, including sterile and parenteral nutrition preparations
• Issue controlled substances and maintain legal records
• Monitor therapy for contraindications, interactions, allergies and appropriateness of dose
• Review culture and susceptibility data for antibiotics and recommend changes
• Provide clinical consultations, evidence-based therapy recommendations and drug information to staff, patients and families
• Take part in quality improvement, medication use reviews and training programs
• Supervise and appraise pharmacy technicians and verify their daily work
• Answer the telephone and the window, keep the pharmacy tidy and work independently with minimal supervision

Required profile

• Graduate of an ACPE-accredited pharmacy school; Pharm.D. preferred
• Current license to practice pharmacy in North Carolina
• Health-system experience preferred but not required
• Willingness to receive required vaccinations and to undergo a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen after an offer
• PRN employees are not eligible for health, medical or PTO benefits
