PRN Pharmacy Technician

About the role

Ashe Memorial Hospital is hiring a PRN (per diem) pharmacy technician in Jefferson. The technician assists the pharmacist in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining the drug inventory and keeping patient records, working only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and never performing duties that can legally be done only by a registered pharmacist.

Key responsibilities

• Fills physician orders and stock requisitions accurately
• Reorders medications when needed and restocks IV dispensing areas within specified times
• Delivers and stocks medications and supplies to Omnicell areas on schedule, and receives, unpacks and stores them properly
• Rotates stock so it is used before expiration, identifies and replaces outdated or unusable medications
• Repackages bulk medications into unit-dose packages safely and accurately
• Picks up medications for return from patient care areas and enters orders, charges and credits into the pharmacy computer system
• Generates reports, pick lists and labels, maintains logs and records, and keeps the pharmacy clean and organized
• Answers the telephone and the window, directs calls, and delivers to patient care and ancillary areas when requested
• Prepares IVs and other sterile preparations safely and accurately, and completes monthly storage area inspections
• Collects data, runs quality monitors and promotes patient safety and satisfaction

Required profile

• One year of related pharmacy experience preferred
• Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred
• Good oral and written communication, ability to prioritize work and solve problems in a group setting
• Willingness to receive all required vaccinations (flu shot, etc.) as a condition of employment, with proof provided after an offer
• Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen required upon conditional offer
