Full-Time Medical Assistant I - Float (Mountain Family Care Center)

About the role

Ashe Memorial Hospital is hiring a full-time day-shift Medical Assistant for its home-based Mountain Family Care Center (MFCC) in Jefferson, North Carolina. The position is a float role: the selected person has a designated home department but also covers other departments or areas as needed based on staffing and operational needs. There are no supervisory responsibilities and no travel.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the clinical function of the practice under the direction of the physicians.
• Train and educate practice staff.
• Obtain and record vital signs and pertinent observations during patient visits.
• Prepare patients and be ready to assist the provider.
• Follow physician orders to perform or assist with phlebotomy, sterile procedures, diagnostic procedures and other procedures within the scope of practice.
• Facilitate patient flow and prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas.
• Communicate with patients by telephone and educate patients with special needs.
• Maintain laboratory records and patient results, and check medications monthly for expiration dates.
• Attend staff, educational, safety and training meetings and follow hospital policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Completion of a Medical Office Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant program, or equivalent training, preferred.
• Previous CMA/RMA experience preferred.
• Current BLS certification.
• Willingness to receive all required vaccinations (e.g. flu shot); proof of vaccination or an approved exemption is required before starting work.
