PRN Patient Care Nurse Assistant - Oncology

About the role

The Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) works on the 5N Oncology Unit at Indian River Hospital, providing supportive care to cancer patients during night shifts. This PRN position offers flexible hours and the opportunity to gain experience in an acute care setting.

Key responsibilities

• Assist nursing staff with patient comfort, transport, and execution of nursing orders.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, and collect/transport specimens.
• Support activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, hygiene, and feeding.
• Document care, record vital signs, intake/output, and blood glucose results.
• Restock and order supplies, maintain a clean patient environment, and respond to call lights within five minutes.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (upon hire or within new‑hire period).
• Graduates of an approved nursing assistant program or CNA certification preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb and perform physical tasks such as repositioning patients.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification or equivalent training.
• Proficiency in performing EKGs and phlebotomy.
• Experience with patient transport and vital sign monitoring.
