PRN Medical Laboratory Technician (Day Shift)

About the role

Ashe Memorial Hospital in West Jefferson, North Carolina, is hiring a PRN Medical Laboratory Professional (MT / MLT / CLS) for its Laboratory Services department. The professional performs a broad range of laboratory tests across several disciplines to support timely and accurate diagnosis. The position is on 12-hour day shifts (first shift, schedule varies), with no travel required and no supervisory responsibilities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform moderate- and high-complexity laboratory testing in hematology and coagulation, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology and blood bank
• Ensure proper specimen collection, handling, processing and reporting
• Maintain quality control procedures, calibration and equipment performance
• Identify, troubleshoot and resolve testing discrepancies
• Report critical values promptly and accurately according to protocol
• Assist with phlebotomy as needed
• Maintain compliance with safety, infection control and regulatory standards
• Document results accurately and on time

Required profile

• Certified or eligible for certification as an MLT (ASCP or AMT), MT (ASCP, AMT or HEW) or CLS (NCA, ASMT or equivalent)
• Appropriate laboratory education and training in line with federal and state guidelines
• CPR certification required, or ability to obtain it within 12 months; must be eligible for MLT certification within 12 months if not yet certified
• Eligibility for hospital policies, including vaccination requirements (approved exemptions considered)
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening after the offer
