Principal Hardware Design Engineer

About the role

Leidos is seeking an accomplished Principal Hardware Design Engineer to lead the design, development, testing and reverse engineering of advanced hardware supporting mission-critical Government programs. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the engineer acts as a senior technical authority, guiding complex engineering efforts, advancing design methodologies and mentoring teams. Key responsibilities

• Direct the design, development, testing and continuous improvement of integrated circuits, hardware components, embedded firmware and signal processing technologies, keeping designs reliable, manufacturable and cost-effective.
• Apply ASIC and FPGA place-and-route tools and engineering libraries, and integrate new tools, libraries and technology updates into the Government's computer-aided design environment.
• Lead reverse engineering of integrated circuits, firmware and electronic components, including de-processing and firmware retrieval, and develop new reverse engineering methodologies.
• Guide hardware adaptation of vendor-manufactured hardware to meet specialized Government needs.
• Serve as an internal technical consultant, direct and review the work of Hardware Design Engineers, mentor engineers and promote knowledge sharing.
• Evaluate emerging hardware technologies and tools, and develop engineering best practices and technical standards.

Required profile

• TS/SCI clearance with polygraph at the time of application.
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or five additional years of hardware design experience in lieu of the degree.
• At least 12 years of experience in integrated circuit or microelectronic component design or reverse engineering for programs or contracts of similar scope and complexity.
• Preferred: experience supporting Intelligence Community or other national security missions.
