Preconstruction Estimator

About the role

F.H. Paschen, a construction company with over 115 years of experience, is hiring a Preconstruction Estimator in Dallas. The estimator takes part every day in the preconstruction phase of projects, sourcing and reviewing opportunities, preparing budgetary estimates and schedules, and developing work plans from conceptual or schematic designs through construction documents. The role helps develop project GMPs through quantity take-offs, subcontractor pricing and historical cost data, and involves both public and private clients.

Key responsibilities

• Client development: grow client and designer relationships, attend client-initiated meetings, and network with owners, architects and engineers
• Estimates: prepare preliminary, conceptual, schematic, design-development and construction estimates with quantity take-offs, and create subcontractor and material supplier bid lists
• Bidding: solicit subcontractor bids, prepare bid packages, obtain bids and analyze them
• Value engineering: work with architects, engineers and consultants to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities
• Planning: help prepare preliminary construction schedules and work plans, attend design meetings and the project hand-off, and visit ongoing projects to check the estimate against actual progress
• Maintenance of historical data, supplier and subcontractor databases, and instruction to bidders

Required profile

• Over 5 years of preconstruction and estimating experience preferred
• Civil and structural preconstruction and estimating experience strongly preferred
• Preferred four-year degree in construction or civil engineering
• Excellent interpersonal, written communication and organizational skills, with strong attention to detail
• OSHA certification preferred

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
• Knowledge of estimating, scheduling and quantity take-off software
