Power Distribution Field Designer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Power Distribution / Make‑Ready Designer to own the full lifecycle of utility pole projects, from on‑site data collection to construction‑ready engineering deliverables. The role blends field work with design, primarily covering Northwestern Louisiana, Northeast Texas and the West Arkansas border, with travel as project needs evolve.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct utility pole walkouts and field surveys to capture attachment, clearance, and structural data.
• Verify pole ownership, heights, spans, guying, and equipment; document conditions with photos, measurements, GPS data and field notes.
• Research right‑of‑way, easements, permitting constraints and property ownership.
• Develop overhead distribution and make‑ready designs compliant with NESC and client standards.
• Perform pole loading analysis, clearance resolution and determine make‑ready requirements, attachment rearrangements or pole replacements.
• Create complete, construction‑ready design packages and end‑to‑end joint‑use or general distribution designs.
• Utilize design platforms such as DDS, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Katapult, O‑Calc, GIS and other utility‑specific systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, project management and quality teams; support quality‑control reviews as needed.

Required profile

• Proven experience in overhead utility pole design and NESC‑compliant make‑ready or power distribution engineering.
• Comfortable managing the full design lifecycle from field data collection to final deliverables.
• Willingness to travel extensively (50‑75% travel, including overnight stays) and use personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
• Ability to work remotely when not on‑site and attend a 2‑week paid onboarding in Perrysburg, Ohio.
