Postdoctoral Researcher in Materials Chemistry & Organic Synthesis

About the role

The Department of Chemistry at Prairie View A&M University seeks a Postdoctoral Researcher to advance an externally funded project focused on organic synthetic chemistry and new molecular materials. The role involves independent and collaborative laboratory work, data analysis, and contribution to scholarly publications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute organic and organometallic syntheses to create novel molecular structures and materials.
• Perform laboratory experiments and characterize products using NMR, MS, UV‑Vis spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and related techniques.
• Document experimental data, maintain accurate lab records, and prepare research summaries, technical notes, and progress reports.
• Assist in manuscript preparation, presentations, and reporting for NSF deliverables and scientific journals.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory techniques, safety, and research methodology.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Organic Chemistry, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in organic or organometallic synthetic chemistry.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a research environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with NMR, mass spectrometry, UV‑Vis spectroscopy, and electrochemical characterization.
• Experience in thin‑film preparation and solid‑state characterization methods.
• Familiarity with EPR spectroscopy, radical chemistry, or main‑group element functionalization (preferred).
• Mentoring or supervising undergraduate or graduate researchers (preferred).
