Associate/Full Professor and Department Head (Political Science)

About the role

Prairie View A&M University seeks an accomplished scholar‑leader to serve as Associate or Full Professor and Department Head of Political Science, beginning Fall 2027. The role will shape the new department’s strategic vision, academic identity, and public impact while advancing teaching, research, and student success.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a shared strategic vision, departmental goals, and performance metrics aligned with college and university plans.
• Lead curriculum development, program review, assessment, and creation of new degree programs, minors, certificates, and interdisciplinary initiatives.
• Recruit, retain, mentor, and evaluate faculty; support research, external funding, and professional visibility.
• Oversee student recruitment, enrollment, retention, experiential learning, and career preparation initiatives.
• Maintain an active, externally funded research program and mentor graduate and undergraduate scholars.
• Manage departmental budget, personnel, course scheduling, and resource allocation responsibly.
• Build partnerships with alumni, donors, government agencies, nonprofits, and professional associations to raise the department’s visibility and secure support.

Required profile

• Earned Ph.D. in Political Science or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
• At least three years of progressive academic administrative experience (e.g., department head, chair, associate dean) and a record of teaching, research, scholarship, and service qualifying for tenure‑track appointment.
• Demonstrated effective leadership, strategic planning, and faculty development skills.
