Elementary School Academic Dean (Grades K-2)

About the role

PAVE Academy Charter School, a public charter school in Red Hook, Brooklyn, is seeking an Academic Dean for Grades K-2. The Academic Dean oversees, coaches and supports classroom teachers to achieve high academic results for all students, works with the Instructional Leadership Team, teachers, parents, students and outside consultants, reports directly to the Principal and helps build an achievement-centered culture.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the Principal, Dean of Students and other Academic Deans to build a positive, achievement-oriented culture
• Design and implement professional development for teachers and the whole staff
• Coordinate in-house, state and national assessments and lead standards-based assessment strategies
• Review student achievement data regularly to monitor progress toward proficiency goals and address trouble spots
• Implement the college preparatory curriculum and continuously review assessments, unit plans and lesson plans
• Set performance goals for instructional staff, contribute to teacher evaluations and give regular feedback through coaching meetings, feedback documents and in-classroom coaching
• Facilitate cross-class observations, co-planning sessions and data meetings, and model instruction and co-teach as needed
• Work with outside instructional vendors and consultants, teach as needed, and help develop a yearly plan of action

Required profile

• At least two years of experience with a proven record of high achievement in the classroom
• Experience teaching in an urban public school or charter school setting preferred
• Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred
• New York State teaching certification or equivalent
• Commitment to using data and regular assessment to inform instructional decisions
