Police Dispatcher – Emergency Services

About the role

The University of Miami is seeking a dedicated Police Dispatcher to serve as the primary point of contact for emergency telephone calls. In this role you will coordinate the rapid deployment of police, fire and medical services while maintaining accurate records and supporting campus safety operations.

Key responsibilities

• Receive all incoming police telephone calls and dispatch emergency services to the appropriate location.
• Record call details and dispatch actions in the university’s law‑enforcement computer system with accuracy and speed.
• Complete computer checks, relay response information to requesting officers, and monitor station alarms.
• Enter, modify, and remove warrants, and keep recording equipment in good working order.
• Provide information, resolve complaints, and respond to radio calls from field personnel.
• Develop, confirm, and relay critical information by contacting internal chain‑of‑command personnel.
• Maintain logs, adhere to university policies, and safeguard university assets.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant dispatch or emergency communications experience.
• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize work under pressure.
• Capability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Valid Florida driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Commitment to the university’s core values and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
