Platform Engineer (Elasticsearch, GitLab CI, Jenkins)

About the role

MANTECH, a provider of technology solutions to government intelligence agencies since 1968, is hiring a Platform Engineer in Chantilly, VA. The engineer supports mission-critical data operations by designing, building and optimizing large-scale data ingest and processing solutions in a Big Data environment, enabling reliable Elasticsearch clusters and data pipelines across the full data lifecycle. The position is onsite, full-time, and requires an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and optimize large-scale data ingest and processing systems in a Big Data environment
• Install, configure, upgrade and maintain on-premises Elasticsearch clusters, including health checks, shard allocation, index maintenance and custom dashboards for performance tuning and capacity planning
• Write and maintain SaltStack states, pillars and orchestration workflows to automate provisioning, compliance and patching of on-premises RHEL servers
• Build and maintain end-to-end CI/CD pipelines in GitLab CI and Jenkins with automated builds, artifact publishing and deployments
• Develop automation scripts in Bash, PowerShell and Python for ad-hoc tasks, bulk provisioning and monitoring plug-ins
• Lead integration of third-party software, prototype emerging technologies via Proof-of-Concept and define migration paths
• Produce run-books, SOPs, architectural diagrams and documentation in Confluence and Markdown

Required profile

• High school diploma/GED with 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in platform engineering, data engineering, software development or systems administration
• 2+ years administering and patching RHEL/CentOS servers in production, including provisioning, compliance and hardware troubleshooting
• 2+ years writing and maintaining SaltStack states, pillars and orchestration workflows (or comparable IaC tools such as Ansible, Chef or Puppet)
• Experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Elasticsearch clusters, including Kibana, Beats and Elastic Stack security
• Experience building CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI, Jenkins or similar tools
• Experience integrating third-party software and documenting run-books and SOPs
• Active TS/SCI with polygraph; must be able to sit stationary 50% of the time and communicate accurately with colleagues, management and customers
