Plan Check Engineer – Construction Review

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Plan Check Engineer to ensure safety, compliance, and quality of construction projects in Los Angeles. You will review building and construction plans, verify adherence to codes and regulations, and collaborate with architects, engineers, and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Review construction plans, specifications, and calculations for compliance with building codes, zoning regulations, and other applicable standards.
• Evaluate structural integrity, fire & life safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency of proposed designs.
• Assess mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for functionality, efficiency, and code compliance.
• Communicate with project stakeholders to resolve deficiencies and provide technical guidance.
• Prepare detailed reports outlining findings, code violations, and recommended corrections.

Required profile

• Three years of experience in structural design, plan checking, or construction project management.
• Bachelor’s degree in structural engineering, civil engineering, architecture, or a related field.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or licensed architect registration in California, or FE exam pass with EIT certification.
• Certification as a Residential and Building Plans Examiner from the International Code Council.

Required skills

• Proficiency with CAD software.
• Experience using Blue Beam Revu and other plan review tools.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning laws, and regulatory requirements.
