About the role
The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking a qualified Physician (MD/DO) to deliver comprehensive medical care to inmates at the Federal Correctional Institution in Atlanta. This full‑time independent contractor role involves diagnosing, treating, and preventing health issues in a secure correctional environment.
Key responsibilities
- Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, preventive, and emergency medical services.
- Conduct patient evaluations, physical exams, and obtain medical histories.
- Order, perform, and interpret laboratory, imaging, and other diagnostic tests.
- Develop treatment plans, prescribe medications, and manage ongoing patient care.
- Perform minor procedures such as suturing, splinting, immobilization, and local‑anesthesia surgeries.
- Oversee daily sick call clinic operations and respond to medical emergencies.
- Document encounters, progress notes, and recommend outside consultations when needed.
- Collaborate with health‑services staff to improve care quality and maintain security protocols.
Required profile
- MD or DO degree from an accredited U.S. medical school.
- Active, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
- Minimum three years of physician experience.
- Current CPR/BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Ability to pass federal background clearance and complete FCI security training.
